This salon was a reflection on the rigid structure of the education system and how it almost suffocated Sheriff’s dreams and aspirations. The salon invited us to consider how the current educational system might shape or limit the possibilities of it’s students.

Ashiata presents the skin as a silent witness carrying the weight of memory, recognition and erasure. This is not just about being seen but about how we see ourselves when no one else does.

This salon explores themes of memory, absence, and expectation through carefully composed portraits of Black individuals. Each painting includes symbolic elements—like empty stools, fallen rose petals—representing loved ones who are no longer present, or hopes not yet realized.
