Ashiata shaibu salami
Ashiata Shaibu-Salami, born in Ibadan, Nigeria is a contemporary mixed media artist with a B.A. in Anthropology from the University of Ibadan. Ashiata’s work revolves around deeply personal themes of internal journeys, self-awareness, and the human mind. Having struggled with internal conflicts in her younger years, she channels these experiences into her art, striving to create works that help others navigate their own emotional landscapes.
Her art is an exploration of vulnerability, internal growth, and the complex nature of human emotions. Ashiata’s paintings are not just representations of the mind, but a way of reflecting on the journey to understanding oneself. Through the use of acrylics and paper collage on canvas, she captures the tension between the seen and the unseen, delving into the spaces that exist between consciousness and subconsciousness. The figures in her paintings often reflect the internal battles individuals face, also reflecting the importance of emotional freedom and self-reflection, capturing the raw essence of human experiences and struggles.
Since entering the art world in 2022, Ashiata has been featured in exhibitions, such as Crossroads at SMO Contemporary Art Gallery in 2022, Interconnected by Forme Femine in 2022, Artist Commune with One Art Gallery in 2024, Underland by Soto gallery and Daughters with wings with 202artsplit gallery.
Additionally, she has been recognized by Artsy as one of the woman artist to watch, further solidifying her ground in the artworld
