A thing for Art

Lost in Thought

by Hope Monday

This landscape series explores the quiet power of memory and nostalgia through scenes of nature. Each painting reflects on spaces we carry within us—places that evoke a sense of home, belonging, and the passage of time.

From moments of solitude to glimpses of community, these works capture where the physical and emotional meet. Paths, fields, and distant cottages serve as symbols of life’s journey—familiar, yet deeply personal. Together, they offer a quiet invitation to pause, reflect, and reconnect with what may be lost, but never forgotten.

However, by not showing home as what everybody will typically expect, but with such detail that the work still makes us all feel the same thing, I am critiquing the commodification of African art, where everyone expects us to conform to particular styles and visuals in telling our stories.
